TLEA Gives Best Pitcher Award Friday, August 24th , 1888 The votes have been tabulated for the 1888 Eastern Association Hurler of the Year. It has been given to Bob Emslie of the Beaumont Alpinists, who piled up 20 wins this season with an impressive 1.59 ERA. In 32 starts Emslie had a 20-12 mark with 210 strikeouts in 294.2 innings. He received 16 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Benigno Medina of the Galveston Gulls finished second in voting, while Roderick Johnson of the Galveston Gulls finished third.
