Luling Ace Wins ETXA Hurler of the Year Tuesday, October 26th , 1897 Luling's George Walker took home the 1897 Association of Eastern Texas Hurler of the Year earlier today after a remarkable season on the mound. With a record of 21-11, Walker was certainly a worthy winner. He made 32 starts and posted 303.2 innings, 80 strikeouts and a 3.29 ERA. He received 10 first place votes out of a possible 16. Andrónico Alfaro of the Beaumont Alpinists finished second in voting with 6 first place votes, while Luis Domínguez of the Luling Lavender Stockings finished third.
