ETXA's Best Rookie Honored

For several weeks the rumor mill had it that the 1897 Greenhorn winner was a foregone conclusion and the trophy would go to Galveston catcher, Jeremy Martin. It is no longer a rumor -- the Association of Eastern Texas made it official today.

Martin won the award by hitting .338 and collecting 99 hits, 5 home runs, 49 RBIs and 38 walks. He scored 47 runs and posted a .413 on-base percentage.

He received 16 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Paulino Granada of the New Braunfels Yodelers finished second in voting, while Nathan McFarlane of the Luling Lavender Stockings finished third.
