Lavender Stockings on to Championship of Texas
Tuesday, October 5th , 1897
The Luling Lavender Stockings clubhouse was filled with glee and celebration tonight, while the Nacogdoches Roaches room was filled with despair and sadness after the Circuit Championship Series concluded.
"Someone's got to win and someone's got to lose, we're just glad we're on the good end of it tonight and can enjoy this," said Haffy Beattie, who was named MVP for a strong series of offensive performance.
Luling won the final game by a 4-2 count at Roaches Field and the series 3-1.
Nacogdoches manager Joe Moffet was simple and to-the-point in his assessment of the series.
"They were the better team and deserve to move on," he said.
For the series, Beattie hit .556 with a .556 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, drove in 6 RBI and scored 4 runs.
The Luling Lavender Stockings don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Odessa Cowhands - Abilene Preachers series. Odessa leads the series 2 games to 1. The Championship of Texas schedule will be announced after the Circuit Championship Series finishes.
