McGill Dominates Preachers in 4-0 Shutout Thursday, September 16th , 1897 The Abilene Preachers were almost helpless today in their 4-0 loss to the Amarillo Horizons and hurler Willie McGill. McGill kept the Preachers confused all game, spinning a 3-hit shutout. "Tip your hat to McGill," Abilene manager Jimmy Macullar said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night." The 23-year-old left-hander had 1 walk and 5 strikeouts in a strong performance. "It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," McGill said.
