Carranza Stops Phoenix Cold, 5-0 Sunday, July 22nd , 1888 The Phoenix Gila Monsters struggled at the plate today against Olympians hurler Mario Carranza, who shackled them on 6 hits while hurling a complete game 5-0 shutout. "What can you say? We didn't hit well," said Gila Monsters skipper Michael Richardson in postgame comments. "Hopefully we shake this off and bounce back tomorrow." Carranza finished the game with 2 strikeouts and 1 walk in an excellent mound performance. "He pitched real well," Tempe manager Germán Hardy said. "Mario made pitches when he had to. He hit his spots and did a great job of mixing in his changeup and using his fastball effectively." This year Carranza has 12 wins and 18 losses and a 2.19 ERA.
