Soles Heading to Serie Eliminatoria Friday, October 22nd , 1897 The fans in Luquillo are celebrating the Soles victory over the Canovanas Chupacabras in the Serie Preliminar. They defeated the Canovanas Chupacabras 10-8 in the finale played at Campo de los Chupacabras to capture the series 3-1. Mateo Sánchez was chosen the series' Most Valuable Player. The Soles shortstop batted .400, drove in 4 runs and scored 1 runs in the series. "The Chupacabras are a good club and I don't mean any disrespect to their pitching staff, but things just felt easy this series," Sánchez said. "Everything at the plate seemed right." The Luquillo Soles will play against the Salinas Pescadores in the next round. Salinas won their series against the Guaynabo Conquistadores 3 games to 1.
