Ramírez's 23-Game Hit Streak Ends Wednesday, August 25th , 1897 Camuy second baseman Camilo Ramírez came into today's game against the Morovis Titanes on a hot streak. He left on a cold one. The Titanes did their jobs well, beating the Camuy Murcielagos 2-1 and holding Ramírez hitless to snap his 23-game hitting streak. The 41-year-old second baseman had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-2, telling reporters only that he "came up short." "What Camilo did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Murcielagos manager Víctor Nieves. "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 23 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play." This season Ramírez has banged out 136 hits in 377 at-bats for a .361 average with no home runs. He is getting on base at a .413 pace and his totals also include 64 RBIs and 62 runs scored. |
