Holmes 5-for-6 Against Chicago Thursday, September 9th , 1897 It was a hits blitz for Ducky Holmes at West Side Grounds 1894-1915 today. The Louisville Colonels second baseman tore into the Chicago Colts for 5 hits in 6 at-bats, but it wasn't enough to win the game. The Colts swept past the Colonels 5-4 to ruin Holmes's day. "We weren't locating our pitches well," Louisville manager Pete Treacey explained after the game. "Once you get behind in the count, you have to make really good pitches, rather than pretty good pitches, and we weren't able to do that today. Getting 5 hits from Ducky was nice but it wasn't enough." Ducky Holmes singled in the 2nd, grounded out in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, singled in the 8th, singled in the 10th and singled in the 12th.
