Beaneaters Come up Short of Playoffs
Tuesday, August 31st , 1897
That they came exceptionally close to qualifying for the playoffs will likely provide little solace for fans of the Boston Beaneaters -- the team was mathematically eliminated from postseason contention today.

"I don't expect the fans to be happy with us," said Beaneaters starting pitcher Bob Black. "We're not happy with ourselves."

This is the club's 12th playoff miss in a row. They last appeared in the postseason in 1885.In total, the Beaneaters have missed the playoffs 15 times in their 27-year history. Boston has won the World Series 7 times in their history.
