José Rivera led the Samalayuca Enjambre to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Ciudad Juarez Nortenos at Nortenos Park today.

"My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus," Rivera recalled later. "He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location."

Rivera yielded 7 hits and had 3 strikeouts and 1 walk in the standout performance.

"I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," Ciudad Juarez manager Dan Snider said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."

This season-to-date, Rivera has fashioned a 16-11 mark and 2.49 ERA in 242 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .239 against him and he has logged 92 strikeouts.
