Tight Tilt Goes to Highwaymen, 2-1
|
Crowds lined up early in front of Tucson Grounds, eagerly awaiting the start of the 1897 Liga del Rio Bravo season. On the mound was Josh Shoemaker for the visiting Prescott Lynx and Ryan Wade for the hometown Tucson Highwaymen. In a spirited contest, the Highwaymen pulled out the win, defeating the Lynx by the score of 2-1. Especially impressive was Ryan Wade. Wade, now 1-0, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 4, walking 5, and allowing 1 run.
Robert Duffy had a critical at-bat with no one out in the bottom of the sixth for Tucson. He came through with a run-scoring single to put Tucson in front, 2-0.
"It was a tough night at the plate," said Prescott manager David Schmitt.
