Vélez Lifts Leopardos to Win
|
The Bayamo Rafagas took it on the chin, losing 10-1 to the Santa Clara Leopardos. Jorge Vélez, who finished 5th in the TORI in strikeouts with 144 in 1890, pitched a strong game for Santa Clara. The Leopardos go to 43-52, putting them third in the Torneo del Oriente División de Santa Clara.
Vélez, who dominated for Santa Clara, earned the victory to move to 16-15. He was in control the whole game, scattering 5 hits over 9 innings, while striking out 2. Bayamo batters could never bunch up enough hits to produce a rally.
"I just trusted my stuff," said Vélez.
