The Bayamo Rafagas topped the Cienfuegos Elefantes, 6-2, in Torneo del Oriente action at Parque de Bayamo. The standout performance belonged to Bayamo pitcher and Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, native Matías Villarreal. Villarreal, now 10-9, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 2, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. The Rafagas raised their record to 29-27.

Troy Butler had a timely hit in the bottom of the sixth inning. With two out and runners on 1st and 3rd, the Bayamo first baseman hit a run-scoring single. That put the Rafagas in front, 6-2.

"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Butler told the Bayamo Gazette. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
