Matanzas Henequeneros starter Frank Groves was in a rhythm all game. He led his team to a win over the Habana Leones, 5-2. Matanzas is first in the Torneo del Occidente División de La Habana with a record of 34-21.

The Leones had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Henequeneros going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old right fielder Cecil Goodyear came to the plate. Goodyear hit a 2-run triple on a first pitch fastball from Habana hurler Egidio Sánchez. It was Goodyear's 4th triple of the year.

"It feels good to get this one," Goodyear told the Matanzas Daily.
