Copper Lords Need Extra Frames to Get Past Stevedores
|
The Swansea Copper Lords topped the Newport Stevedores, 4-2, in Great British Base-Off action at Newport Grounds. The standout performance belonged to Swansea pitcher and Barranquilla, Colombia, native Rod Paz. Swansea reliever Jon Schofield picked up the win, while Rutilio Rivera took the loss for Newport. Gus Williams recorded the save, his 3rd.
Swansea used the timely hitting of Javier Montiel to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Copper Lords on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Paz called the triumph "a good team win."
The Copper Lords now have a record of 34-68 with the win over Newport.
