Rams Knock Off Talons, 3-2
|
Derby Rams starter Freddie Rhys turned in a sterling performance against the Sheffield Talons, leading his team to a slim 3-2 win. In 9 innings, Rhys surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 4. He allowed 2 runs. The Rams improved to 48-41.
Bayamón, Puerto Rico-born Javier Cordova came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the seventh, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Rams trailing 2-1, he hit a 2-run single to center to put Derby on top.
Cordova was in a reflective mood after the contest. He told the Derby Today, "Every game is it's own challenge. That's what keeps the competitive fire alive."
