Triumph Number 100 for Stevedores Downey Kennedy
|
Newport's Downey Kennedy took the hill at Newport Grounds today in search of his 100th career win. The 31-year-old ace found it against the Swansea Copper Lords.
After the historic victory, his manager told reporters, "I saw a tremendous sigh of relief when this thing was over. He was just looking to hug everyone in sight."
He worked 9 innings with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks in the 7-2 victory, checking Swansea on 6 hits.
"It a big milestone in my career," admitted Kennedy. "When you get close to it, you worry about it a lot. It's done now... and I can relax and enjoy it."
Kennedy has authored a 100-71 won-lost record in his career with a 2.51 ERA.
