Spirited fans greeted the Swansea Copper Lords for their clash with the Newport Stevedores.

The Newport Stevedores defeated the Swansea Copper Lords, 5-2, in Great British Base-Off action at Copper Lords Park. Newport pitcher Douglas Stevens had a standout performance. Stevens went the distance for Newport. He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits.

Wayne Taylor contributed to the Stevedores cause with a productive at-bat in the top of the sixth inning. With runners on 1st and 3rd, he hit a sacrifice fly, giving Newport the lead.

"We all want to win," said Stevens. "We all want to do our part."

The second-place Stevedores raised their record to 38-30.
