Stevedores Win at Wrexham, 6-3
|
Newport Stevedores starter Douglas Stevens pitched a strong game against the Wrexham Druids at Wrexham Stadium, leading the Stevedores to victory, 6-3. Stevens, now 11-7, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 3 runs. Their 33-26 record puts the Stevedores second in the All-Team Circuit Undeb Pel-fas Cymru.
Newport right fielder Jon Pierce had a key at-bat for the Stevedores in the top of the seventh inning. Facing left-hander David Hamilton, Pierce hit a 2-run single. It put Newport in front, 4-0. For the day, Pierce went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
