The Beaumont Alpinists got a superb performance from pitcher Andrónico Alfaro. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Luling. The Lavender Stockings won the game, 5-4. Alfaro threw 9.0 innings of 8-hit ball. Picking up the win was Pedro Ortiz. He went 9 innings, allowing 4 runs on 11 hits. The right--hander struck out 1 and walked 4. The first-place Lavender Stockings sport a record of 19-11.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the seventh, with the game tied, Enrique Rojas was at the plate when Luling scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Lavender Stockings to go in front, 5-4.

"We've got a great group of guys," Rojas said, "and we're having fun right now."
