Cadavers Make Pecan Kings 4-3 Losers
Crowds lined up early in front of Pecan Kings Stadium, eagerly awaiting the start of the 1897 Texan Base-Ball League season. On the mound was Josh Cornaby for the visiting San Marcos Cadavers and Josh Dalton for the hometown Tyler Pecan Kings. In a spirited contest, the Cadavers pulled out the win, defeating the Pecan Kings by the score of 4-3. Especially impressive was Josh Cornaby. In 9 innings, Cornaby surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 4. He allowed 3 runs.

Ramón Pereira, the 1896 ETXA home run champion , had a direct impact on the outcome. Pereira contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the fifth inning to put San Marcos up, 3-2.

"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Tyler manager Marshall Locke.
