Beaneaters Suffer 7-4 Setback
The Brooklyn Bridegrooms weathered an outstanding game by Boston first baseman Dan McGann to topple the Beaneaters, 7-4. McGann went 4 for 5 with 4 singles. He drove in 2 runs. Larry Corcoran was the winner. Over 9 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 14 hits, with 2 walks and no strikeouts. At 63-72, the Bridegrooms are currently 6th in the National League.

Bill Hughes went 1-3 with a double for Brooklyn. The slick-fielding center fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jim Whitney. It was his 36th RBI of the season.
