Pirates Down Giants, 3-1
|
Despite the rain, the fans at Exposition Park 1891-1908 enjoyed a good ballgame.
The Pittsburgh Pirates racked up a win at Exposition Park 1891-1908, bumping off the New York Giants, 3-1. Henry Jones, who started for Pittsburgh, pitched effectively for his team. Jones got the win, improving to 14-28. He allowed 6 hits and walked 5 over 8 innings. Jones allowed 1 run.
With one out in the bottom of the third, Tom Leahy barreled up a curveball from Jesse Burkett. The result was a solo home run, putting the Pirates in front, 2-0.
Jones told a Pittsburgh Bulletin reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
Pittsburgh is 7th in the National League with a record of 53-79.
