Boston Beaneaters starter Abner Powell turned in a sterling performance against the Pittsburgh Pirates, leading his team to a slim 3-2 win. In 9 innings, Powell surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. The loss makes Pittsburgh 32-57.
The contest featured some late-game dramatics from Boston right fielder Chick Stahl. In the top of the eighth inning, with one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Stahl hit a 2-run double to help Boston seize the win.
"I like winning," Stahl told the Boston Daily. "I may joke around, but when it comes down to it, winning is the most important thing."
