Phillies Sink Pirates, 7-2
|
The Philadelphia Phillies topped the Pittsburgh Pirates, 7-2, in National League action at Exposition Park 1891-1908. The standout performance belonged to Philadelphia left fielder and Charlottesville, Virginia, native Charlie Ferguson. Philadelphia pitcher Ed Dugan got the win, upping his record to 5-4. Henry Jones got the loss. Philadelphia is now 47-31.
In the first inning, Ferguson had a bases-clearing double for Philadelphia. It was his 17th double of the season and put the Phillies on top, 4-0.
Ferguson told a Philadelphia Daily News reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
