The Boston Beaneaters buried the New York Giants, 12-1, under a barrage of hits. Jimmy Collins led the onslaught, going 4-for-5 for Boston. Boston is now 48-32.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Jim Manning? The Boston center fielder had a 2-run double in the top of the second inning to put the Beaneaters on top, 2-1. For the game, Manning had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"They took us to the woodshed," said New York manager Chris Petty.
