Boston beat Chicago in a rain-soaked ballgame.

The Boston Beaneaters picked up a win at West Side Grounds 1894-1915, knocking off the Chicago Colts, 7-5. On the mound for Boston was right-hander Abner Powell, who played a pivotal role in the win. The third-place Beaneaters lifted their record to 41-30.

Had Frank Connaughton not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Connaughton hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Beaneaters.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Connaughton. "And not try to do too much."
