The Boston Beaneaters did just enough to sneak past the Cincinnati Reds, 6-5, at South End Grounds 1894-1915. Boston third baseman Jimmy Collins, in particular, had a standout performance. The winning pitcher was Abner Powell. He tossed 120 pitches over 9 innings, allowing 5 runs on 10 hits.

The game came to a sudden end. In the bottom of the ninth, with one out, Collins reached on an error by the 3B, driving in 1 run. It gave Boston the 6-5 walk-off win.

"Good win for us," said Collins. "Now we'll focus on the next one."
