Pirates Lose Late, 5-2
|
The Brooklyn Bridegrooms got a stellar performance from pitcher John Horan, who handcuffed the Pittsburgh offense en route to a win, 5-2, at Exposition Park 1891-1908. In 9 innings, Horan surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs. Brooklyn bumps their record to 31-33 with the win.
Had Fielder Jones not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Jones hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Bridegrooms.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Horan said.
