Phillies Top Pirates, 2-1
|
Philadelphia picked up a win at National League Park 1895-1909, bumping off the Pittsburgh Pirates, 2-1. Pitcher Tim Keefe was a major reason the Phillies emerged victorious. With the win, Philadelphia raised its record to 34-23.
Philadelphia first baseman Nap Lajoie contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two down, he hit a fastball into left-center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 85th hit of the season and put the Phillies ahead, 2-0.
Keefe told a Philadelphia Daily News reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
