St. Louis center fielder Dick Johnston played a vital role in his team's 8-5 triumph over Cincinnati. He was 3-3 with a home run, a triple, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for St. Louis. Ed Seward earned the win to go to 5-4. He allowed 5 runs on 14 hits, with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts in 8 innings of work. The win gives St. Louis a season record of 16-13.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the eighth, with the game tied, Denny Lyons was at the plate when St. Louis scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Cardinals to go in front, 6-5.
