Patrulleros Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Capitanes, 7-5
|
Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown San Sebastian Patrulleros take on the Mayaguez Capitanes.
The San Sebastian Patrulleros beat the Mayaguez Capitanes, 7-5, at Jardines de los Patrulleros. Radamés Marqués, in particular, was impressive. He went 3 for 3 with 3 singles and a walk, while scoring 3. The win belongs to Felipe Salas in relief. His record improves to 6-5. Manuel Martínez took the loss for Mayaguez. Emilio Castillo notched his 7th save in 10 chances.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Alberto Hernández came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Mayaguez pitcher Manuel Martínez, he hit a 1-0 splitter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting San Sebastian on top, 6-5.
"We played hard and won," said Marqués. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
The Patrulleros go to 45-74 with the win.
