The Villalba Avancinos got a rain-soaked win over the Ponce Leones.

The Villalba Avancinos topped the Ponce Leones, 5-2, in Liga Hostos action at Parque de los Leones. The standout performance belonged to Villalba pitcher and San Germán, Puerto Rico, native Nicandro Amado. Earning his 2nd save for Villalba was Leovigildo Taveras.

Aarón Alanis, the slick-fielding shortstop , had a direct impact on the outcome. Alanis contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to put Villalba up, 2-0.

"Nicandro -- his tempo and rhythm were good," said Avancinos manager José López. "He was the key to us winning."

Villalba is now 59-30. Ponce is 44-46.
