Phillies Best Reds in Pitching Duel
|
Philadelphia Phillies starter Hardie Henderson was in fine form. He led his team to victory over the Cincinnati Reds, 2-1. Henderson, now 2-1, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 3, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The Reds fall to 3-7 and continue their rocky start to the 1897 season.
Eddie Burke hit a run-scoring triple off Peek-A-Boo Veach in the bottom of the sixth, which put the Phillies in front, 2-1. Burke had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 4.
"For the most part, I stayed out of the middle of the plate," Henderson said.
