Smith Leads Cardinals to Win
St. Louis and Philadelphia duked it out and the Cardinals came out victorious.

Good production from shortstop Germany Smith helped the St. Louis Cardinals topple the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-3. Smith went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4 for the Cardinals. Ed Seward, who went 8 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 12 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 2. His record now stands at 1-0. Pink Hawley recorded his 1st save for St. Louis.

Smith had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 1-0 fastball from Charlie Ferguson, he banged a 3-run home run to left, giving the Cardinals a 4-1 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Smith.

"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Smith said.

St. Louis goes to 2-0 with the win.
