Beaneaters Hope Opening Day Win Bodes Well for Season
The Boston Beaneaters put the giddy home crowd in an even more jubilant mood after beating the Pittsburgh Pirates in the season opener at South End Grounds 1894-1915. Catcher Tom Daly won plaudits for Boston. He was 3-4 with a home run and a triple, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Boston starter Bob Black was credited with the win after throwing 122 pitches over 9 innings. His record now stands at 1-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, Dan McGann delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and the bases loaded, the Boston first baseman hit a 2-run single, putting the Beaneaters in front, 5-2.

"We're all about heart and hustle on this team. That's what wins ballgames," McGann told the Boston Daily.
