Browns Top Solons, 8-4
|
Not everyone stuck through the 33-minute rain delay, but those who did went home happy.
St. Louis Browns starter Jack Stivetts pitched a strong game against the Columbus Solons at Sportsman's Park I, leading the Browns to victory, 8-4. In 9 innings, Stivetts surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 6. He allowed 4 runs.
Charlie Duffee was 2-5 with 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs for St. Louis. The two-time All-Star had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Amos Rusie. It was his 70th RBI of the season.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Stivetts said.
The Browns raised their record to 64-40.
