The 1897 season is going from bad to worse for Florida.

Eduardo Maestas did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Florida Mogotes from losing, 10-9, to the Manati Atenienses at Parque de los Atenienses. Maestas went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Manati now sits in second place in the Liga Hostos Norte at 20-25.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, an error by the Mogotes allowed the Atenienses to score the winning run.

"Winning is the only objective," said Covarrubias after the game.
