The Cleveland Spiders stopped the Columbus Solons, 11-9, at League Park I. The Spiders got a big game from Ed McKean, who was 2-4 with 2 doubles and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. John Henry got credit for the win, improving to 8-7. He allowed 9 runs on 14 hits in 8.1 innings. Picking up the save was Cy Young, his 2nd.

McKean had a game-changing double in the bottom of the sixth. On a full count fastball from Dan Sheehan, he banged a bases-clearing double to center, giving the Spiders a 9-6 lead. It was the 12th double of the year for McKean.

"We'll enjoy this win," said McKean. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."

Cleveland, at 26-43, holds down 7th place in the American League.
