Spiders Need Extra Frames to Get Past Colonels
The Cleveland Spiders topped the Louisville Colonels, 8-6, with center fielder George Davis playing a big role. Davis was 4 for 7 with a triple, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Spiders in the win. The winning pitcher was Sid Kitson. His record is now 8-10. The right-hander went 11 innings, allowing 6 runs on 15 hits for the Spiders. Picking up the save was Cy Young, his 1st.

Cleveland used the clutch hitting of Harry Blake to capture the win. The right fielder drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the 12th inning to give the Spiders the lead, 7-6. For the game, Blake had 1 single and 1 double in 7 at-bats.

"It all comes down to execution," said Cleveland manager Robert Armstrong. "Baseball 101."

The Spiders now have a mark of 21-37.
