The Columbus Solons beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 9-3, at Athletic Field. The Solons got a fine performance from shortstop Dave McKeough, who was 4 for 5 with 4 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Larry McKeon, the winning pitcher, improved to 6-12. He pitched 9 innings, giving up 9 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 1. The Solons improved to 20-32.

Columbus used a timely hit from Curt Welch to get the win. The center fielder stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Solons ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"I'm a bit of a clubhouse prankster," said McKeough. "But it's all business when we're on the field."
