Colonels Down Spiders, 11-10
George Davis did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Cleveland Spiders from losing, 11-10, to the Louisville Colonels at League Park I. Davis went 4-6 with a triple and 2 doubles. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. Steve Francis, credited with the win, is now 1-1. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits. The 'W' lifts Louisville's record to 24-14.

Louisville used the clutch hitting of Henry Cote to capture the win. The catcher drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Colonels ahead, 11-8. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a big one.

"I'm the humblest guy I know," Cote told a local reporter without a hint of irony.
