Extra innings were needed to determine a winner at Congress Street Grounds.

The Cleveland Spiders stymied the Boston Reds, 6-2, at Congress Street Grounds. George Davis had a good day at the plate. He went 3 for 4 with a triple, a double, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Cleveland. The win belongs to Cy Young in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Scott Stratton took the loss for Boston.

Cleveland used the timely hitting of Louis Sockalexis to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Spiders on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Nice to get this one," said Sockalexis. "Wins have been hard to come by."

Boston falls to 10-16.
