The Cleveland Spiders scored a tight 5-4 win versus the Baltimore Orioles at League Park I. Cleveland pitcher Sid Kitson held his own in the contest. Kitson, now 3-3, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 2, walking 2, and allowing 4 runs. The Orioles fall to 8-11 and continue their uneven start to the 1897 season.

Kitson contributed in the bottom of the sixth. With a runner on 2nd, he hit a run-scoring single. It was one at-bat among others that helped Cleveland get the win.
