The Boston Reds and St. Louis Browns provided some drama for the home crowd.

Boston center fielder George Hogriever had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Hogriever was 4-4 with a triple, 3 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs, even as St. Louis beat the Reds, 7-6. Billy Hart got credit for the win, improving to 4-0. He allowed 6 runs on 12 hits in 9 innings.

St. Louis used a timely hit from Deacon McGuire to get the win. The catcher stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Browns ahead, 7-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.

McGuire said afterward that "winning is what it's all about."

The Reds fall to 6-11.
