The Columbus Solons beat the Boston Reds, 4-3. Columbus pitcher and New York, native Larry McKeon led the way. The Reds fall to 5-8 and continue their uninspiring start to the 1897 season.

With Columbus leading 1-0 in the bottom of the second, McKeon hit a 2-run single off Boston hurler Toad Ramsey. It was the 3rd hit of the season for McKeon and put his team ahead, 3-0.

"I liked the focus, I liked the effort," said Solons manager Fraley Rogers.
