Leones Get Close Win Over Marineros, 5-4
|
The Barceloneta Marineros got a sterling performance from pitcher Vicente Cordova, but the Ponce Leones still prevailed, 5-4. Cordova threw 9.0 innings of 5-hit ball. Ademar Soto earned the win for Ponce. He lasted 7 innings, allowing 4 runs on 10 hits, while striking out 3. With the win, he raised his record to 1-1. The loss lowers the Barceloneta record to 2-2.
The Leones benefited from a costly error in the top of the eighth. With José Pizano at bat and Ponce trailing 4-3, the Barceloneta miscue allowed Ponce to plate 2 and take the lead, 5-4.
"Winning is the only thing that really matters," Pizano told the Ponce Daily. "If you can win without even breaking a sweat, more power to you."
