The Hamilton Hammers and Sault Ste. Marie Rapids were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.

Sault Ste. Marie Rapids starter Les Mahoney pitched a strong game against the Hamilton Hammers at Hamilton Fields, leading the Rapids to victory, 7-2. The first-place Rapids are 68-43.

The Rapids got a big at-bat from right fielder Tommy Hollett. For the game, Hollett was 1-4 with a double and a walk. In the top of the first, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 13th double of the season gave Sault Ste. Marie a 1-0 lead.

"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Sault Ste. Marie manager Elijah Washington.
