The inspired effort of Hamilton first baseman Paxton Picard was not enough to prevent a loss, 5-4, to the Sault Ste. Marie Rapids. Picard was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles. He drove in 3 runs. Sault Ste. Marie, at 56-38, occupies first place in the Ontario Baseball Association Northern Division.

Had Josh Spottswood not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Spottswood hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Rapids.

"I just try to bring what I bring to this team," said Spottswood.
